Mike Schultz understands the importance of customization better than most. In 2008, the aspiring Olympic snowboarder suffered a harrowing setback: A snowmobile accident cost him his left leg. When he recovered, he was back on the snow immediately, but he quickly realized that existing prosthetic legs did not have the flexibility or shock absorption needed for snowboarding. Instead of giving up, Mike upped the ante – by inventing and building a new kind of prosthetic leg.

Thanks to years of hard work and unrelenting determination, Mike was slated to compete in the snowboard-cross and banked slalom events at the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games. When the time came to ship his prosthetics and equipment across the world, he came to Custom Case Group to ensure that his invaluable cargo would be secure.

We chose the waterproof and extremely resilient Pelican Storm case as our foundation, then used custom waterjet-cut foam and a foam tray to ensure that Mike’s equipment was safe and secure through every stage of transit. We know that Mike and his prosthetics and board made it to PyeongChang safe and sound – he has the gold and silver medals to prove it! This case now comes standard with every prosthetic leg that his company makes.
